Who We Are
We are a nonprofit organization rooted in Whitehead’s process philosophy and constructive postmodernism. Our mission is to build bridges between China and the West—especially between China and the United States—to advance ecological civilization through academic research, cross-cultural exchange, model projects, and international conferences, etc.
Our Mission
The Institute for the Postmodern Development of China weds the best Chinese and Western resources to identify global pathways toward ecological civilization.
Our Vision
We aim to create and promote new modes of development in China and the West. Using ideas that integrate classical Chinese philosophy with constructive postmodern thought, we develop new solutions to practical problems associated with economic growth, social change, globalization, and the environmental crisis.
Our Impact
The ideas and principles derived from this interactive process will not only assist China in its development process but also provide Western scholars with new approaches to old policy enigmas. IPDC is uniquely poised to promote the two-way exchange of ideas that is necessary for us to solve concrete problems across cultures.
Our Core Strategies
- Research: think tanks, academic research centers, consultations
- Communication: books, newspapers, journals, international conferences, visiting scholars and lecture programs
- Transformative Action: Model projects, for example in postmodern education and ecological agriculture
Our History
The Institute for Postmodern Development in China (IPDC) was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2005 to create and promote new modes of development in China and the West. By integrating classical Chinese philosophy with constructive forms of postmodern thought, the Institute addresses urgent global issues associated with economic growth, social change, and globalization.
